Shelter care is often referred to as emergency foster care. Shelter care is a safe place for children to go in an immediate crisis after DHS business hours are closed or on weekend. There is usually little advanced notice. Placements are typically a few days, but may last longer.
Currently, this is a huge need in the tri-county area for shelter care. Even if you work traditional hours and are willing to be available Friday night through Monday morning, we encourage you to explore shelter care. There is a huge need for more shelter home resources.
This is the 24 hour Foundation training required for all foster parents.
